The session
opened with an extensive shopping trip that morning, and a good portion of the
session was devoted to resource management for the Knights.
After they
spent the morning shopping, they gathered all of their things and went to
Mother Hazel. They had a brief conversation where they asked hazel how to get
to the Halls of the Silent Lady. She told them to walk south from Boarlanding
into the ocean and keep walking along the ocean floor until you get there. She
then made good on her promise to send them anywhere they wished, and opened a
portal in a rock face. The party, horses cart and all, went through the portal.
They found themselves
on a stretch of sandy beach just east of Westport in Goldmeadow. Heading into
Westport, they stopped at the Sailor’s Rest Inn and paid the barman for a
recommendation on a Captain who would be willing to sail into the uncharted
west.
Through the
barman’s introduction they met and hired Bartholomew, Captain of the Sea Hero,
a three masted caravel. They agreed on a price of 15,000 gp; 5,000 in advance
for supplies, 5,000 to be kept in the Captain’s strongbox, and 5,000 to remain
in the hands of the party until completion of the voyage. They party also
insisted on accompanying Bartholomew on his provision buying.
The party
spends the next 3 days watching the provisioning, and Fyn goes shopping for
parts for Ratchets while Grigor and Frumious buy what they need to convert a
portion of the cargo hold into a laboratory. At night during these days Fyn tries to
disable the traps on the 9 Words of Power. He is finally successful but loses
three fingers to a trap. Two fingers we
able to be quickly reattached by the paladins with lay-on-hands, but his left
thumb remains severed. Fyn bought the necessary parts to make a prosthetic.
In conversation
with Percival about the book, Percival lets slip that there are 16 words of
power, not 9.
The next
morning the Sea Hero shoves off. A month passes (25 days) during which Grigor
makes certain items, Frumious brews potions, Fyn constructs his new thumb (with
magical aid from Grigor), and Feydor and Bajol try to learn the ways and jobs
of sailors. After a month of sailing, the Sea Hero rounds the southwestern horn
of the continent and heads north along the coast for a week (5 days). The Sea
Hero puts in near a dark tower where an “Endless” supposedly lives to stock up
on fresh water and let the sailors stretch their legs on land before the big
push west (day 6 from the horn). The Knights take a dinghy out to the tower.
Knocking on
the door they meet the Endless, who sardonically and obviously falsely gives
his name as “Bob”. His tower is in disarray and is in the process of being
packed up. He is in the process of leaving, having concluded his research on
this world. The Knights and he converse a little, and he offers to show them a
Chronosi. They agree to meet one. End Session
